A simple reminder that Poverty still unfortunately exists - Blog Action Day 2008

Poverty is not a new subject, I believe it existed since the first forms of societies. Moreover it is exactly understood as back then it was maybe this consequence had justified causes and reasons, but now what justifies it?

The problem with poverty is the vicious circle that they sank in those poor people, and now who cannot get out of it. It is not only a deprivation of food, clothing, shelter and those common necessities that most of us take for granted, it is also the deprivation of opportunities to learn, go to school which would lead those people into not having opportunities to obtain a good employment.

There are many things you as an individual can do, or even better as a group, you can start by raising awareness on the subject, more like, reminding people that this sad situation still exists. And what else you can do? You can donate to NGOs that do actually try to provide those common necessities to poor people and opportunities to learn in hope that one day they can go about it on their own.

Or you can simply while browsing online, visit www.freerice.com, for every word you guess right, you give 20 grains, how does it work? find out here.

This is Blog Action Day, and these are things and action you can do and adopt.

My Blog, one year!

One year since my first post on this blog. One year for this blog actually. It was on July 20th, 2006. I wanted a way to express my frustration and anger towards what was happening in Lebanon, and blogging was a great way. And to my surprise, I discovered many other bloggers, there was a Lebanese bloggers community, all together expressing and reaching out, and trying to show the world that there is another side of Lebanon besides the war.

The best thing that came out of blogging, was reading other blogs and reading visitors comments. Seeing another point of view or having someone agree with you, is just amazing. Having readers is also amazing. It's just an amazing feeling to know people read you daily!

So, I realised I should look up synonyms of the word amazing because I use it a lot, and second, is that I think I am going to try for another year of blogging.

Happy blogging,

Liliane

New Template

Hope this new template is more comfortable to the reader, as we realized with time that a complete black background can be harmful to the eye. Therefore we redesigned this blog by doing a compromise (something our politicians should do), by adding black on the sides, and putting the peaceful white as background for the posts in the middle. More to come.

Till then,

I heart blogs

Nowadays as everyone is full of love, love for life, aimer la vie, even the opposition agreed to it, and some people made their own slogans from the "I Love" campaign, it crossed our minds that why can't Independence05.com share the love in its own way.

Not being able to post a comment

I have been informed lately by several bloggers of not being able to post comments, and perhaps this started since I have moved Independence05 from the old blogger to the new one. All bloggers who have moved will not face any problem commenting, but I suspect old bloggers will face problems, so I re-added Anonymous access.

Hope this helps.
